Abstract

ABSTRACT
Horticulture has emerged as a significant component of agricultural diversification in arid and semi-arid regions of India. Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, once a desert region, has witnessed remarkable transformation due to canal irrigation and technological advancements. This paper examines the development of horticulture—particularly kinnow cultivation the harvesting of kinnow usually begins in December and continues till the end of February. According to the State government data, the total area under kinnow in Rajasthan is around 48,000 hectares and analyzes its socio-economic impact on the region. The study highlights increased income, employment generation, and improved living standards while also addressing challenges such as market instability, water scarcity, and infrastructural constraints. The findings suggest that horticulture has played a crucial role in rural transformation, though sustainable practices and policy support remain essential for long-term growth.
